


She studied Polish philology at the Jagiellonian University (comparative literature), where she subsequently obtained a PhD in the humanities in 2002, specializing in literary studies. Both her MA and doctoral theses focused on Polish and German Romanticism: The Fantastic in the Works of E.T.A. Hoffmann and The Influence of German Philosophy—from Kant to Hegel—on Polish Romantic Literature as Interpreted by Scholars of Philosophy and Literature. She was awarded, among others, scholarships from GFPS (Friedrich Schiller University in Jena) and the Italian Cultural Institute (Genoa, Orbetello).
For many years, she was affiliated with the Faculty of Polish Studies at the Jagiellonian University, where she taught Polish literature, comparative literature, and editing. She also collaborated with the Centre for Polish Language and Culture in the World and the Institute of German and Nordic Studies at the Jagiellonian University, as well as with the interdisciplinary project ZintegrUJ. Since 2001, she has worked in numerous publishing houses (as a language editor, managing editor, and editor-in-chief), and has cooperated with them as an author, translator, reviewer, and expert. She has also contributed to various journals, including Studium. Pismo Literacko-Artystyczne, Arte, Sztuka Edycji, and Gazeta Wyborcza. She has also been employed in cultural institutions, including the Institute of Literature and the Book Institute. She is currently involved in the DiHeLib Flagship Project devoted to research on the Autograph Collection.
She has participated in Polish and international research projects and grants, including Antiquity in Romanticism; Slavic Worlds of Imagination; Joseph von Eichendorff (1788–1857) and the Czech-Polish Cultural and Artistic Borderlands; and Review in Review, among others. She maintains ongoing collaboration with the Textography Laboratory at the University of Wrocław, the Book Design Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, and the University and East–West Foundation in Białystok (including work on publications in the scholarly series Czarny Romantyzm (Black Romanticism).
She is the author of numerous books, academic and popular science articles, lexicons, as well as dictionaries, anthologies, and educational publications. Her most recent scholarly works include the monograph Kwiaty, dziewice i upiory. „Ballady i romanse” Adama Mickiewicza w ilustracjach (Flowers, Maidens, and Phantoms: Adam Mickiewicz’s “Ballads and Romances” in Illustration) (2025) and editions of fairy tales by Ludwig Tieck and Joseph von Eichendorff, published in the scholarly series Black Romanticism, featuring her own translations of the texts discussed. She has translated approximately 50 books from German and Italian, most recently Franz Kafka. Rysunki (Franz Kafka. Drawings), edited by A. Kilcher (2023).
Her research interests focus broadly on interdisciplinary and comparative studies centered on literature, imagination, fairy tales, illustration, editing, and translation. A significant part of her work concerns Polish and German literature and culture, particularly the Romantic period.
