The Berlin Collections have been digitised over a number of years thanks to the implementation of various national and international projects. The extent of their digitisation reflects the scope and nature of these initiatives. Digital copies are made available free of charge in PDF format, and the digitised materials are in the public domain.
The Berlin Collections can be accessed via the Jagiellonian Digital Library by expanding either the “Sucject Collections” tab (→ “The Prussian Library Collection”) or the “Type of library materials” tab (→ “Music Collection”).
“Subject Collections” (→ “The Prussian Library Collection”)
The Prussian Library Collection in the Jagiellonian Digital Library is a systematically organised corpus comprising named sub-collections such as “Alba Amicorum”, “Nachlass von Alexander von Humboldt”, “Pander Sammlung”, “Slavica”, and others. These contain materials digitised within individual projects, either in part or in full.
Users can refine their searches and explore individual sub-collections using specific criteria (e.g. author’s name, title of the document). For example, in the case of the Nachlass von Alexander von Humboldt, selecting the collection allows users to search for individual items by entering relevant titles such as “Kosmos” or “Briefe an Eduard Buschmann”. Complete digital copies of the retrieved materials can be downloaded in PDF format.
It is also possible to follow links from the Jagiellonian Digital Library to the full bibliographic record of a given item in the Jagiellonian Library’s online catalogue, ExplorUJ.
“Type of library materials” (→ “Music Collection”)
The “Music Collection” category includes numerous items from the Berlin Collections, grouped into three categories: printed music, music manuscripts, and early printed music. These can be accessed by selecting the appropriate category and refining the search by composer or title.
